Norwegian Crown Princess Mette‑Marit Receives Successful Lung Transplant
Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit underwent a lung transplantation at Oslo’s Rikshospitalet. The operation was reported as successful by department head Arnt Fiane, who said the new lungs are functioning well. Lead surgeon Gerdt Riise noted that while the procedure carries significant risks, it is generally life‑extending for most patients. Health officials added that about one in ten recipients die within a year after such a transplant, underscoring the seriousness of the surgery.
The royal household confirmed the transplant and confirmed the princess is recovering under medical supervision.
