Norwegian Cruise Line closes hot tubs on Norwegian Prima

Norwegian Cruise Line has temporarily closed all public hot tubs and private balcony heated whirlpools aboard the Norwegian Prima as a precautionary measure. This decision follows the diagnosis of Legionnaires’ disease in three former passengers who traveled on the vessel in May and July 2026.

The cruise operator is collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the incidents and implement mitigation strategies. While it has not been definitively confirmed whether the exposure occurred on the ship or elsewhere, the company has increased sanitation protocols, including testing, hyperchlorination, and disinfection of water systems.

Guests currently on board were notified via cabin letters regarding the situation. Other ship amenities, such as swimming pools, slides, and restaurants, remain operational. The whirlpools will remain closed until sampling procedures are completed and remediation efforts meet CDC standards.
