Norwegian Customs reports record drug and e-cigarette seizures
Norwegian Customs reports a significant surge in narcotics and illicit goods seizures during the first half of 2026. The agency has seized over 1.2 tons of hashish, potentially leading to a record-breaking year for drug interceptions.
In addition to cannabis, authorities have confiscated nearly one million narcotic pills, primarily benzodiazepines. Customs Director Benedicte Bjørnland noted that organized criminal actors are collaborating to smuggle these substances into the Nordic region, driven by high demand and availability in Norway.
Other notable seizures include approximately 420,000 e-cigarettes and a rising volume of peptides. Bjørnland expressed concern regarding the increasing sophistication of smuggling methods and the exploitation of minors by criminal networks in the distribution of illegal e-cigarettes.
