Norwegian cyclists navigate Tour de France 2026 with close call and strong lineup

A fallen safety fence on the morning of the opening stage in Barcelona nearly caused a crash for Norway's Uno‑X team, but all riders stayed upright. Tobias Halland Johannessen, who finished sixth in the 2025 edition, started the race and ended 59 seconds behind overall winner Jonas Vingegaard, placing the Uno‑X squad 14th of 23 teams.

The 2026 Tour features eight Norwegian riders across three squads, including former cross‑country skiers such as Florian Lipowitz and Per Strand Hagenes. Norway’s national champion Tobias Foss rides for Netcompany‑Ineos, while the Uno‑X roster comprises the Halland Johannessen twins, Jonas Abrahamsen, Anders Skaarseth, Torstein Træen and Søren Wærenskjold. The three‑week race covers 3,321 km from Barcelona to Paris’s Champs‑Élysées.
