Norwegian Editors' Association urged to review Hans Rustad's membership

Aftenposten has called on the Norwegian Editors' Association to review the membership of Hans Rustad, the editor of Document.no, following protests from three editors who resigned in response to his conduct.

The newspaper criticized Rustad’s recent statements, describing them as lacking truth, relevance, and objectivity. Specifically, Rustad has used inflammatory language in a podcast, referring to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre as ‘a new Quisling’ who has ‘sold himself to Satan,’ and claiming Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide is ‘in alliance with Islam.’

The Norwegian Editors' Association has stated it is monitoring the debate. General Secretary Reidun Kjelling Nybø and Board Chair Britt Sofie Hestvik emphasized the need to follow principles and act transparently regarding the membership review. Meanwhile, the editor of Klassekampen has warned against the precedent of expelling members based on their opinions.
