Equinor and ORLEN sign crude oil deal to bolster European energy security
Equinor and Poland’s ORLEN have entered a three-year agreement for the sale of crude oil from the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian continental shelf. Starting in September, annual supplies will range from 5 million to over 9 million tonnes, potentially covering up to one-quarter of ORLEN’s annual demand. The oil is intended for refineries in Poland, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic to bolster regional energy security.
In separate developments on the Norwegian continental shelf, Equinor and Aker BP confirmed a gas and condensate discovery at the Linga prospect in the North Sea. Additionally, Equinor, Aker BP, and Vår Energi have announced a partnership to expand exploration activities. The trio aims to test a portfolio of 20 to 25 high-impact opportunities over the next four to five years, targeting approximately five wells per year to find larger-scale discoveries beyond existing infrastructure tiebacks.
