Norwegian MP Geir Inge Lien warns fuel tax rise will hurt businesses

Geir Inge Lien, a Centre Party member of the Norwegian Parliament, notes that on 1 April the CO₂ levy on diesel for coastal and offshore waters was removed after a majority vote, giving immediate relief to the fishing industry and related sectors.

He criticises the government's plan to impose new climate‑related requirements on the construction sector and the Conservative Party's proposal to end cheap fuel and raise taxes from 1 September. Lien says higher fuel prices would increase costs for agriculture, transport, fishing, small firms and construction, leading to higher prices for consumers, and calls for predictable, low‑cost fuel policies.
