Norwegian media market sees circulation and advertising growth

Data from the first half of 2026 indicates a general growth trend in the Norwegian media market, with 7 out of 10 titles reporting increased circulation. National newspapers saw a 3.9 percent increase, while local newspapers grew by 2.7 percent.

The industry is experiencing a significant shift toward digital consumption. Fully digital subscriptions rose by 8.7 percent, now accounting for 75.4 percent of the total market. While digital growth is strong, traditional print circulation continues to decline, with complete subscriptions (print and digital) falling by 12 percent.

Specific regional successes include Brønnøysunds Avis, which has seen ten consecutive periods of growth, and Kyst og Fjord, which grew its total circulation by 12.7 percent driven by a 20.7 percent surge in digital subscribers. Møre-Nytt also reported growth, primarily through digital channels.

Parallel to circulation trends, the advertising market is expanding. Media investments through agencies rose by 7.0 percent in the first eight months of the year, totaling nearly 6.9 billion NOK. Digital media remains the largest segment, representing approximately 44 percent of total media turnover.
