Norwegian Nurses Organisation demands wage increases in 2040 health plan
The Norwegian Nurses Organisation is calling for wage increases to be integrated into the Health Personnel Plan 2040 to combat growing staffing shortages. As the elderly population increases, the demand for healthcare services is projected to rise significantly.
Erling Holmøy, a social economist at Statistics Norway, estimates that Norway will require 120,000 additional health and care workers by 2040. Holmøy emphasized that competitive wages are essential to attract labor and prevent the potential privatization or dualization of the healthcare sector. Lill Sverresdatter Larsen, leader of the Norwegian Nurses Organisation, echoed these concerns, advocating for higher pay and reduced workloads to address the current shortage of nurses and healthcare professionals.
