Norwegian parties propose fuel tax cuts amid rising diesel prices

The Progress Party (Frp), Centre Party (Sp), and Christian Democratic Party (KrF) have proposed a joint motion in the Storting to reintroduce fuel tax cuts for the remainder of the year. The proposal comes in response to diesel prices exceeding 31 NOK per liter, which party leaders describe as a crisis for rural residents and businesses dependent on vehicles.

The Conservative Party (Høgre) has stated it will not support the motion, arguing that tax and duty issues should be handled through the standard upcoming national budget process rather than via separate motions.

Discussions regarding fuel costs also highlight broader economic factors, including declining refinery capacity in Europe and geopolitical disruptions affecting supply chains, which have contributed to price increases beyond simple tax adjustments.
