King Haakon VIII leads Norwegian charity drive for refugees
King Haakon VIII of Norway participated in the annual ‘TV-aksjonen’ fundraising campaign, visiting the municipality of Kvitsøy to collect donations. This marks his first time participating in the event in his capacity as King following the death of his father, Harald V.
The campaign, organized annually by the broadcaster NRK since 1974, involves volunteers knocking on approximately 2.5 million doors across Norway. This year, the initiative raised 251,299,209 Norwegian kroner to support the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in its humanitarian efforts for populations affected by global conflicts.
In Kvitsøy, the King joined volunteers to walk through the streets with a donation box. The event is considered one of the largest fundraising campaigns in the world based on the number of volunteers and per capita donations collected.
