Norwegian Royal Family transitions following death of King Harald V
Following the death of King Harald V, the Norwegian Royal Family is entering a new era. King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit have decided to remain at the Skaugum estate in Asker for the time being, rather than immediately moving into the royal residence at the palace in Oslo. This follows a tradition established by Harald and Queen Sonja, who also lived at Skaugum for ten years after their accession. Experts suggest a move to the palace might not occur until at least 2027, or potentially until Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra establishes her own family.
Regarding the late King Harald, new details have emerged concerning his final resting place. It appears that King Harald and Queen Sonja personally participated in the design of their shared sarcophagus, which is intended for the royal mausoleum at Akershus Fortress. The Norwegian state had previously allocated approximately 20 million kroner for the creation of this resting place.
