Norwegian royal heir Marius Borg Høiby faces rising legal costs after four‑year prison sentence

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old son of Crown Princess Mette‑Marit of Norway, was sentenced to four years in prison by an Oslo district court. The legal proceedings have already generated approximately 3.8 million Norwegian kroner (about €345,500) in attorney fees, and the cost is expected to climb further if Høiby pursues an appeal.

Under Norwegian law the state initially covers the defence costs, but Høiby may eventually have to reimburse part of the expenses. In addition, potential compensation claims and damages could increase his financial burden. He is slated to serve his sentence at the Ila prison in Bærum, where his high‑profile background is expected to make him a target among other inmates.
