Norwegian Royal House faces staffing challenges
The Norwegian Royal House is facing potential staffing challenges following a period of mourning. Following the death of King Harald on August 28, King Haakon decreed a period of official mourning until October 9.
As the royal family transitions back to normal duties, several factors are impacting the available workforce. Queen Mette-Marit is currently undergoing rehabilitation following a lung transplant and is not expected to have an official program until next summer. Additionally, Prince Sverre Magnus is studying in Lisbon, and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra is scheduled to return to Australia in February to continue her studies.
This leaves King Haakon and Queen Sonja as the primary working members of the monarchy. Observers have noted that the reduction in active royal staff could place a significant burden on the King regarding official duties and state responsibilities.
