Norwegian royal son Marius Borg Høiby granted limited release to see ill mother

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old son of Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, remains in pre‑trial detention on multiple criminal charges, including alleged sexual offences and violations of restraining orders. He has repeatedly asked the Oslo district court to be released from custody, or at least allowed to serve detention under an electronic ankle monitor at his family residence, Skaugum, to be with his mother.

The Crown Princess, who suffers from chronic lung fibrosis, was placed on a waiting list for a lung transplant earlier this week. In response to Høiby’s request, Norway’s correctional services offered a temporary “presentation” – a short‑term release under police escort – allowing him to attend a specialist meeting about his mother’s condition. Police had previously rejected a broader release request but did not oppose this limited arrangement. The court is scheduled to consider his application on Monday, with his trial set for 15 June and a possible sentence of up to seven years and seven months pending.
