Norwegian royal son Marius Borg Høiby to miss sentencing, will appear via video

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, is scheduled to receive his verdict on Monday, 15 June 2026. The Oslo District Court announced that, for verified medical reasons, he will not be present in the courtroom and will instead attend the sentencing by video‑conference.

Høiby had spent two nights in a hospital in eastern Norway after being taken there by police on 10 June; the exact ailment has not been disclosed. Following his release from the clinic on 12 June, he was returned to custody. He remains in pre‑trial detention, with a pending transfer to the Ila prison facility after the verdict is delivered.

The case has amassed 40 counts, including multiple rape allegations. The prosecution seeks a prison term of seven years and seven months, while the defence is pursuing acquittal on the most serious charges. An earlier request for release from detention was denied by an appeals court, citing a high risk of reoffending.
