Norwegian royal's son Marius Borg Høiby seeks house arrest with ankle monitor at Skaugum

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29‑year‑old son of Crown Princess Mette‑Marit and Prince Haakon, has been in pre‑trial detention in Oslo since early February. He faces dozens of charges, including four counts of rape and other offenses such as drug‑related violations. After two earlier applications to end his detention were rejected, his lawyers have petitioned the Oslo District Court to allow house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet—a measure enabled by a 2025 amendment to Norwegian law. The request would place Høiby in a vacant house on the royal estate Skaugum, where his parents have reportedly secured a lease. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for early May, during which the court will assess the risk of reoffending and other factors before deciding whether the house‑arrest arrangement, which includes GPS monitoring, visitor restrictions and a ban on substances, can be applied.

If granted, Høiby would serve the remainder of his custody period under electronic monitoring at Skaugum, joining a small number of similar arrangements previously used in Norway.
