Norwegian sports federations petition government for new elite sports center

The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, represented by President Zaineb Al-Samarai, has submitted a formal petition to the Norwegian government requesting funding for a new national elite sports center. The petition, supported by all 55 national sports federations in Norway, seeks inclusion in the 2027 state budget.

Al-Samarai emphasized that while recent sporting achievements have bolstered Norway's international reputation and inspired youth, continued investment is necessary to maintain the country's status as a leading elite sports nation. The current facility is described as outdated and lacking universal design.

Erlend Hanstveit, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Equality, received the petition on behalf of the government. He acknowledged the coordinated nature of the project and stated that it would be considered during budget preparations, though he noted that the state budget involves difficult prioritization decisions.
