Norwell plans expansion into Brazil following U.S. and Asian success
Norwegian seafood exporter Norwell is planning to expand its operations into the Brazilian market. The company currently exports between 35,000 and 40,000 tons of salmon annually, accounting for approximately 2.5% to 3% of Norway’s total salmon production.
Norwell maintains established operations in Asia and the United States. Its largest individual market is the U.S., where it supplies Whole Foods through a partnership with a local distributor and a producer shareholder. To meet the strict sanitary and animal welfare protocols required by the American retailer, Norwell utilizes a specialized “pre-rigor” freezing technology. This process reduces the time between slaughter and freezing at -30°C to just a few hours, preserving the freshness of the protein.
