Nosara becomes first Central American district with a 3D digital twin

The district of Nosara, located on the Nicoya Peninsula, has become the first territory in Central America to implement a 3D digital twin. Developed by the Alianza para el Desarrollo Comunitario (ADC), this tool is a three-dimensional replica of the actual territory built using measured relief, high-resolution satellite imagery, statistical research, and public data.

The digital twin features over 400 layers of information, including cartography dating back to 1944, climate projections reaching the year 2100, and data from various institutions such as the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) and the National Commission for Emergencies (CNE). The platform is capable of updating automatically through an API.

Emmanuel Gutiérrez Pizarro, research director of the ADC, stated that the project aims to facilitate risk prevention, development planning, and general monitoring of the area. The initiative was prompted by the high costs and logistical difficulties of physical site visits for public officials, as well as the lack of frequent official census data in the rapidly changing region.
