Nosike Ogbuenyi proposes FIFA Over-40 World Cup for retired players

Nosike Ogbuenyi, a former spokesman for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has proposed that FIFA introduce an Over-40 World Cup for retired football stars. The proposal was submitted to FIFA through the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat in Abuja.

The proposed tournament would cater to players aged between 40 and 65. Ogbuenyi stated that the competition would allow fans to continue watching legendary players, such as Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Lionel Messi, long after their professional careers end.

According to the proposal, the tournament aims to promote fitness among retired athletes, keep legends in the public eye, provide additional income sources, and allow former professionals to mentor younger players.
