Nossa Senhora do Livramento declares environmental emergency and fire ban

The municipality of Nossa Senhora do Livramento in Mato Grosso has declared an environmental state of emergency due to the high risk of forest fires and urban wildfires.

Under the new decree, the use of fire for cleaning or managing land in both urban and rural areas is strictly prohibited until the end of December 2026. This measure follows climate forecasts predicting low rainfall and aligns with a state-wide environmental emergency in Mato Grosso.

The decree authorizes municipal secretariats to take immediate action, including purchasing equipment and hiring temporary firefighters to work alongside public security agencies and the Military Fire Brigade. Violators of the ban face administrative, civil, and criminal penalties.
