Nothing to announce Nothing OS 5.0 based on Android 17 on August 25

Nothing has officially announced that it will unveil Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, on August 25. The presentation is expected to detail new features, visual refreshes, and the roadmap for public beta testing and stable releases.

Key anticipated features include an AI-native approach, redesigned dot-matrix aesthetics using Geist Mono, and improved desktop mode capabilities such as floating windows and better split-screen support. The update is also expected to include enhanced lock screen widgets and smart notifications through an expanded AI Playground suite.

While the Nothing Phone (3) is expected to be among the first to receive the update, several older models will not be compatible. The original Nothing Phone (1) has reached the end of its software lifecycle and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0. Similarly, the Nothing Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 are unlikely to receive the Android 17-based update due to previous software support commitments.
