Nothing launches Nothing OS 5 open beta based on Android 17

Nothing has launched the open beta for Nothing OS 5, its latest operating system built on Android 17. The update introduces over 80 enhancements focusing on design, personalization, performance, and artificial intelligence.

Key features include new clock designs such as ‘Gooey’ and ‘Micrographics’, as well as new widgets like ‘Collector’ and ‘Away Time’. The company is increasing its integration of AI through functions like ‘Essential Voice’ and ‘Essential Space’ with MCP connectivity. Design updates include a redesigned home screen, adaptive color systems that sync with wallpapers, and the use of the Geist typography.

The beta is currently available for the Phone (3) and the Phone (4a) Pro, though some features like the Micrographics clock and the new home screen are not yet available on the latter. A stable release of Nothing OS 5 is expected in mid-October. Users are cautioned that beta versions may impact stability, battery life, and performance.
