Nothing Phone (4a) Pro and OPPO A5 5G Offer Affordable AI-Enabled Smartphones in Japan

British tech brand Nothing released the Phone (4a) Pro in Japan in April 2026 with a direct‑to‑consumer price of ¥7,9800. The device combines a distinctive aluminum design with a 6.83‑inch OLED panel, 144 Hz refresh rate, a three‑camera array (50 MP wide, 50 MP 3.5× telephoto, 8 MP ultra‑wide) and proprietary AI tools such as Essential Space and a Glyph matrix display.

Chinese manufacturer OPPO introduced the A5 5G, priced below ¥30,000, featuring a 6,000 mAh battery, 45 W SUPERVOOC fast‑charging, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 octa‑core processor, a 5‑MP wide‑angle camera with AI eraser 2.0, a 6.7‑inch HD+ screen with up to 120 Hz refresh, IP65 water‑dust protection and support for e‑wallet and My Number card functions. Both models aim to attract cost‑conscious Japanese consumers as smartphone prices rise due to yen weakness and component cost increases.
