Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 to feature AI‑optimized Snapdragon 8 Elite chip
Qualcomm has confirmed via an Instagram teaser that its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy will power Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold8. The processor retains the same CPU (4.74 GHz) and GPU (Adreno 840 at 1.30 GHz) clock speeds as the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but includes a specially tuned Neural Processing Unit (NPU) aimed at accelerating on‑device artificial‑intelligence tasks and improving multitasking on the large foldable display.
The AI‑focused NPU is expected to enable faster local processing for features such as text summarization, image editing, real‑time translation and context‑aware app suggestions, reducing reliance on cloud services. While the chip will continue production on the mature process node rather than moving to a 2 nm node, Qualcomm says the refined process will boost energy efficiency and thermal performance. Samsung, which commands about 93 % of the foldable market in Spain, is positioning the Z Fold8 as its next premium flagship, integrating the new Snapdragon variant to maintain its lead in the segment.
