Nothing unveils Nothing OS 5.0 with Android 17 features
Nothing has officially unveiled Nothing OS 5.0, a major software overhaul built on Android 17. The update introduces over 80 changes focused on design, personalization, performance, and artificial intelligence.
Key visual updates include the introduction of the Geist typeface, a new adaptive color system that pulls tones from wallpapers to tint icons and widgets, and a redesigned home screen with transparent layering. Users can now choose to separate the notification panel from the quick settings panel or keep them combined. The Glyph Interface also receives a dedicated management app and a new timer widget.
AI enhancements via the Essential AI suite include improved real-time transcription and Smart Collections for organizing notes and images. Performance improvements aim to enhance touch responsiveness and background app retention.
The open beta rollout begins on August 26, 2026, starting with the Nothing Phone (3). While newer models like the Phone (4a) series and CMF Phone 2 Pro will receive the update later this year and into early 2027, older devices including the Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 will not receive Nothing OS 5.0 as they have reached the end of their promised major Android update cycles.
