Notre Dame and BYU face off in top-10 matchup

No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 8 BYU are set to face each other in Provo this Saturday in a top-10 matchup that carries significant implications for College Football Playoff (CFP) positioning. The game marks the first meeting in a two-year home-and-home series and represents the first time in history that both teams are ranked during a matchup at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Both programs are looking to strengthen their cases for the expanded 12-team playoff field following previous seasons where they were denied at-large berths. Notre Dame enters the contest with a 6-0 record, while BYU holds a 5-0 record. Oddsmakers currently list BYU as a 10.5-point home underdog.

This matchup is a rare occurrence for the programs, which have met only ten times since BYU's inception in 1922. The last time Notre Dame played in Provo was in 2004, when BYU secured a 20-17 victory.
