Notre Dame and USC agree to four‑year football series starting 2030
The University of Notre Dame and the University of Southern California have signed a four‑game home‑and‑home agreement to resume their historic football rivalry. The first matchup will be played in Week 1 of the 2030 season at the Los Angeles Coliseum, with the return game in Week 1 of 2031 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. Additional games are scheduled for the 2032 and 2033 seasons, though exact dates have not been set.
The series, which began in 1926 and has been played 95 times, will again feature the Jeweled Shillelagh Trophy. Notre Dame leads the all‑time record 53‑38‑5. USC athletic director Jen Cohen said the early‑season slot “allows us to schedule competitively with our Big Ten peers,” and head coach Lincoln Riley called the renewal “beneficial for both programs and college football.”
To free the 2030 opening date, Notre Dame cancelled its previously announced home‑and‑home series with the Indiana Hoosiers, which had been slated for the same weekend. The cancellation removes a $250,000‑plus penalty clause and leaves Indiana without a non‑conference power‑team opponent for the next two years. The renewed Notre Dame‑USC rivalry is expected to draw national television coverage and significant fan interest.
