Notre-Dame de l'Agenouillade pilgrimage to draw 800 participants
The 8th edition of the Notre-Dame de l'Agenouillade pilgrimage is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026. Organizers expect more than 800 participants to travel the route between Béziers and Grau d'Agde, marking a significant increase from the nearly 600 pilgrims who attended last year.
Following an invitation from Archbishop Norbert Turini of Montpellier, the event has taken on a new diocesan dimension. The pilgrimage follows a historical tradition linked to the sanctuary where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared. The route begins at the Saint-Nazaire Cathedral in Béziers at 8:00 a.m. and proceeds along the Canal du Midi, arriving at the sanctuary in Grau d'Agde around 8:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to all, offering various walking paths to accommodate different ages and physical abilities. Shuttle services will also be available for those unable to walk the full distance.
