Notre Dame defeats North Carolina 37-26 in rainy matchup
No. 3 Notre Dame defeated North Carolina 37-26 in rainy conditions at Kenan Stadium on Saturday. Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr led the Fighting Irish with four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, completing 21 of 29 passes for 234 yards. Running back Jonaz Walton contributed 120 rushing yards to help the Irish maintain control in the second half.
The Tar Heels, coached by Bill Belichick, initially held their own and even briefly took a 21-20 lead following a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown by freshman Jaden Jefferson. However, Notre Dame responded with a physical ground game, totaling 241 rushing yards, to secure their fifth consecutive win and remain undefeated.
North Carolina quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. threw for three touchdowns and two interceptions. Despite the loss, the Tar Heels showed flashes of competitiveness, including a strong performance from wide receiver Jordan Shipp, who recorded 109 receiving yards.
