Notre Dame football wide receiver group key to upcoming season
Notre Dame will open fall camp on Thursday with only five players completely out due to injury. Head coach Marcus Freeman emphasized the need to avoid the slow starts that have plagued the program, noting that early‑season struggles are addressed through practice adjustments and extended offseason work.
The wide receiver corps has been highlighted as the team’s “X‑Factor” by ESPN, with depth and talent across the group seen as crucial for success. Returning receivers such as Jordan Faison, Micah Gilbert and transfer Quincy Porter, along with newcomers and other depth players, are expected to provide the spark needed for a stronger passing attack. Quarterback C. J. Carr has been building chemistry with the new receiver group during the offseason.
Freeman also praised the development of running back Aneyas Williams and highlighted the leadership role of veteran players as the Irish aim for a more consistent start to the 2026 season.
