Nottingham City Council proposes £20 million investment package

Nottingham City Council is set to consider a proposal for a more than £20 million one-off funding package to support various city services and infrastructure projects. The investment, funded by an underspend in the 2025/26 budget, is scheduled for approval by the council’s Executive Board on 22 September.

Key allocations include £4 million for pothole repairs and road improvements, £2.5 million for energy-saving measures like solar power and battery storage to combat fuel poverty, and £1.5 million for city centre green spaces. The plan also includes £1.2 million for a leisure membership pilot for pensioners and £1 million in business rates relief for over 250 small businesses.

Additional funds are earmarked for public safety and cleanliness, including over £930,000 for 20 new Community Protection Officers and £650,000 for 20 additional litter pickers. Other provisions cover support for unpaid carers, care leavers, intermediate care, and various street maintenance tasks such as graffiti removal and drain clearing as part of the ‘Respect for Nottingham’ programme.
