Nottingham City Council proposes Council Tax freeze
Nottingham City Council has proposed a freeze on Council Tax for the 2027/28 financial year, following improvements to its financial position and increased funding from the government. The draft budget for 2027/28 projects a net revenue budget of approximately £466.8 million against core funding of £466.9 million, resulting in a forecast surplus of £100,000.
If approved, the freeze would keep the council’s share of a Band D bill at £2,342.08. The council aims to use this period to invest in services, including community protection officers, library hours, and debt reduction. However, officials warned that while the three-year government settlement provides certainty through 2028/29, long-term funding remains uncertain as demand for housing and social care services continues to rise.
The proposals will be discussed by the Executive Board on 20 October, followed by a six-week public consultation running until 30 November. A final decision is expected at a Full Council meeting in March 2027.
