Nottinghamshire Councillor Roger Jackson Dies After Cancer Battle

Roger Jackson, a 70‑year‑old Conservative councillor who served on Nottinghamshire County Council since 2013 and on Newark and Sherwood District Council since 2003, died at his home on 30 July 2026 after a long battle with cancer. Despite his illness he dialled into a council meeting earlier that week, a gesture described by colleagues as a testament to his dedication.

During his more than two decades in public service he helped raise £27,000 for the Nottingham Ukrainian Cultural Centre, secured a £26 million flood‑defence scheme for Lowdham, and was known for his work outside politics as a director of his family’s meat‑wholesale business and as chairman of the Nottinghamshire County Show and the South Nottinghamshire Hunt. Tributes highlighted his integrity, commitment to the community and mentorship to colleagues, and expressed sympathy to his wife Jilly and family.
