Nova Direita calls to end 60‑day Madeira Assembly recess

The Nova Direita party publicly criticised the interruption of plenary work at the Legislative Assembly of Madeira during August and September, arguing that the two‑month break leaves the regional government without effective parliamentary oversight. The party says the pause prevents non‑urgent matters from being examined and calls the practice incompatible with constitutional equality, as the regional administration operates year‑round.

Nova Direita proposes that substitute deputies temporarily replace elected members for the recess, intends to request a hearing with the Assembly president, and offers volunteers and other parties to help monitor government actions. The party cites urgent issues such as petitions on unregulated construction and the suspension of Funchal’s municipal plan as examples requiring immediate attention.
