Bosnia and Herzegovina: Railway updates and industrial developments

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, several regional developments are underway. The Unsko-sanski kanton is revitalizing its railway network by launching a regular passenger line between Bihać and Bosanska Otoka on August 31, 2026. Supported by a 250,000 KM investment from the Ministry of Economy, the move follows the success of a tourist train that carried over 15,000 passengers.

In Zenica, the company Nova Željezara Zenica is undergoing bankruptcy proceedings with outstanding obligations reaching approximately 350 million KM. This has led to political scrutiny regarding the FBiH Government's handling of the company and the legislative process used to manage its administration.

In the industrial sector, Republika Srpska Premier Savo Minić visited Elvako MetPro in Bijeljina, calling for stronger government support for companies that export high-quality products to European markets like Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Separately, non-governmental organizations in Serbia have called on Luxembourgish regulators to investigate the takeover of the Adrija news network (ANN) by Alpac Capital, citing concerns over media independence and the lack of regulatory approval for the transfer of control.
