Czech National Bank employee arrested for multi‑million‑koruna theft

Police in the Czech Republic detained a long‑time employee of the Czech National Bank’s Brno branch on suspicion of stealing tens of millions of Czech crowns. Investigators from the Financial Analytical Office flagged suspicious transactions about two months ago, prompting a joint operation with bank officials. The suspect allegedly bypassed internal banking rules to divert funds to his own accounts. Police carried out a home search and three searches of non‑residential premises, and are working to secure the misappropriated money.

The bank’s board ordered an extraordinary internal audit to review controls, and the institution said the case does not affect its regular operations or statutory duties. The regional State Prosecutor’s Office in Brno is overseeing the criminal proceedings and will recommend pre‑trial detention for the accused.
