Brazil hair donation drives support oncology patients
Various social initiatives in Brazil are conducting hair donation drives as part of the ‘Outubro Rosa’ (Pink October) campaign to support women facing cancer and other conditions causing hair loss.
In Nova Iguaçu, the ‘Entre Nós’ project, promoted by the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance (SEMAS), held an event at Praça CEU. The initiative provided free services including makeup, eyebrow design, and crochet workshops, alongside social assistance guidance. Participants donated hair strands of at least 15 centimeters to be used in the production of wigs, turbans, and specialized pillows for oncology patients.
In Campinas, the Rede Mário Gatti is also organizing solidarity hair cuttings. In partnership with the NGO Cabelegria and the Oncology High Complexity Unit (Unacon), the program facilitates the creation of wigs for patients. The initiative includes a ‘Mobile Wig Bank’—a customized van equipped with a dressing room—to provide patients with a private and comfortable environment to select their wigs.
