Nova Iguaçu launches municipal school chess tournament

The city of Nova Iguaçu is launching the II Municipal School Network Chess Tournament, aimed at students aged 9 to 17. The initiative is organized by the Educational and Cultural Foundation of Nova Iguaçu (FENIG) in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Education (SEMED).

This competition marks the return of the tournament to the municipal calendar after an eight-year hiatus. The project intends to use chess as an educational tool to foster skills such as logical reasoning, concentration, planning, discipline, and decision-making. It also seeks to introduce students to new forms of social interaction and entertainment through board games.

The tournament matches are scheduled to take place on November 26 and 27.
