Municipalities in Portugal and Brazil launch pet vaccination campaigns
Various municipalities in Portugal and Brazil are launching health campaigns to vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies and provide other essential medical services.
In Funchal, Portugal, the Municipal Council is conducting its second medical prophylaxis campaign of 2026. Running from October 24 to November 21, the initiative covers all parishes and offers rabies vaccination, electronic identification via transponders, internal deworming, and sanitary bulletins. Participation is free for residents but requires prior registration.
In Brazil, several cities have announced vaccination drives. Nova Iguaçu is implementing a multi-phase rabies campaign with 46 service points. In Rio de Janeiro, Barra da Tijuca is hosting a free vaccination event at the Universidade Veiga de Almeida. Guarulhos is conducting scheduled rabies vaccinations through its Zoonosis Control Center, requiring email appointments. Other regional efforts include mobile veterinary services in Pinhais, vaccination points in Rio Bonito, and itinerant campaigns in Primavera do Leste and Itaboraí. These actions aim to prevent the spread of rabies and protect both animal and human health.
