Nova Iguaçu municipality hosts pet adoption fairs in Praça da Bolívia and Shopping Nova Iguaçu

On Sunday, 12 July, the Superintendência de Bem‑Estar Animal (Subea) organized a responsible pet adoption fair at Praça da Bolívia. The event offered puppies and kittens that had undergone veterinary examinations, deworming and, for dogs, polyvalent vaccination. Free neutering will be scheduled after the animals reach the appropriate age. Prospective adopters must be at least 18 years old and present identification and proof of residence. Subea staff will provide guidance on responsible ownership throughout the morning.

The same day, the Nova Iguaçu municipal Secretariat of Animal Defense and Protection (SEMDEPA) held a second adoption campaign at Shopping Nova Iguaçu. Twenty‑eight animals – 17 dogs and 11 cats – all dewormed and vaccinated, were available for adoption from 12:00 to 17:00. Adopters must be over 18 and complete a questionnaire assessing their living conditions and ability to care for the pet. The event also offered free rabies vaccination for owners’ own dogs and cats, expanding access to animal health services.

Both initiatives aim to reduce abandonment, control the stray‑animal population and promote responsible pet ownership in the municipality.
