Cultural programs and funding updates in Portugal and Brazil

In Portugal, the Direção-Geral das Artes (DGArtes) has extended the application deadline for the creation of the Alentejo Regional Orchestra until September 25. The competition, which has a total budget of 1.62 million euros over two years, aims to promote musical heritage and classical music in the Alentejo region. Information sessions for cultural agents and politicians are scheduled for August 24 and 25 in Grândola, Beja, and Portalegre.

Additionally, the Alentejo 2030 program has opened a 1 million euro tender for scientific infrastructure and equipment, funded largely by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). This initiative seeks to strengthen technological and scientific capacity in areas such as bioenergy, circular economy, and sustainable tourism.

In Brazil, the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, through the Fundação Educacional e Cultural de Nova Iguaçu (FENIG), has opened registration for its Municipal Handicraft Program. Local artisans have until October 16 to register or renew their credentials, which grant access to local fairs, workshops, and discounts on materials. Meanwhile, in Ubatuba, FundArt has extended the registration period for the João Alegre Viola Festival to August 25 to encourage greater participation from musicians and performers.
