Nova Iguaçu police search for missing 10-year-old girl

Authorities in Nova Iguaçu, Brazil, are searching for 10-year-old Mariana Queiroz de Carvalho, who has been missing since she left home for school last Thursday. The investigation is being led by the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station.

During the search, the girl's mother, Carla Lucia, set fire to the family residence, destroying the child's clothing and personal belongings. While the act raised local suspicions regarding the potential destruction of evidence, the mother claimed she set the fire following a mental breakdown. The arson incident has forced the suspension of scheduled police forensic examinations at the property.
