Rio de Janeiro municipalities develop Local Climate Action Plans

Municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro are advancing local climate resilience through the development of Local Climate Action Plans (PLAC). In Nova Iguaçu, a participatory workshop is scheduled to support the diagnostic phase of the plan. This initiative is part of the Resilient Environment Program, a collaboration between the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability and UN-Habitat.

The goal of these plans is to create territory-specific strategies to reduce the impacts of climate change by identifying local vulnerabilities and priorities. In Belford Roxo, a similar workshop was held to foster dialogue between the government, civil society, academia, and the private sector. The broader program aims to establish 34 such plans across priority municipalities in Rio de Janeiro to mitigate disaster risks and build sustainable urban environments.
