Nova Iguaçu's Santo Antônio festival named Rio de Janeiro cultural heritage

The Santo Antônio festival in Nova Iguaçu has been officially designated as Cultural and Immaterial Heritage of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The law, proposed by State Deputy Felipinho Ravis and approved by Alerj, was published in the Official Gazette following signing by interim governor Ricardo Couto.

The festival, which honors the municipality's patron saint, attracts over 100,000 participants annually. Traditions include novenas, masses, and a procession through the streets of central Nova Iguaçu. The event also features local gastronomy, including traditional cocada, and artisan fairs, serving as a significant driver for the local economy.
