Nova Scotia allocates $800,000 for regional emergency management

The Nova Scotia provincial government has announced more than $800,000 in funding to support 12 regional emergency management organizations (REMOs) through the REMO Capacity Grant Program. The funding is intended to enhance community preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities regarding increasingly complex environmental and mental health emergencies.

Recipients will use the grants over a period of one to four years to support staff hiring, communication systems, training, office rentals, and strategic planning. Specific allocations include $40,000 for the Antigonish REMO to maintain resilience and $60,000 for the Yarmouth REMO to hire a full-time emergency management coordinator.

Other participating regions include the Halifax Regional Municipality, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Digby, Queens, Colchester, Guysborough, Lunenburg, Pictou, Shelburne, Victoria, Inverness, and Richmond counties.
