Nova Scotia and Cape Breton face heavy rainfall through Monday

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, forecasting a slow-moving weather system that could bring significant rainfall from Friday through Monday morning.

Some areas may receive between 60 and 100 millimetres of rain, with potentially higher totals in certain locations. Rainfall rates could reach 10 to 20 millimetres per hour, and thunderstorms may cause even heavier localized downpours. Current forecasts suggest the heaviest rainfall may impact Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island.

Authorities have warned of potential risks including localized flash flooding, road washouts, water pooling, and reduced visibility. Residents are advised to clear gutters and drains, secure loose outdoor items, and consider adjusting travel plans to avoid adverse conditions.
