Nova Scotia Energy Minister apologizes for past rap lyrics

Nova Scotia Energy Minister Marco MacLeod has issued an apology following calls for his resignation after misogynistic rap lyrics from his past surfaced. The song, titled ‘George Jones’ and released 13 years ago under the name Meadowville, contains demeaning language toward women and references to cocaine use.

MacLeod stated that he intends to demonstrate his sincerity through future actions and a commitment to learning. He noted that he did not disclose the existence of the recording to party officials when he first ran for office.

Adsum House, a Halifax-based shelter for women, gender-diverse people, and families, has called for MacLeod’s resignation. The organization described the lyrics as demeaning and violent, highlighting that the provincial government has previously declared intimate partner violence an epidemic in Nova Scotia.
