Nova Scotia extends Yarmouth–Bar Harbor ferry service through 2027
The Nova Scotia government and Bay Ferries Limited have signed an agreement to extend the seasonal CAT ferry service between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Bar Harbor, Maine, through 2027. The service is expected to operate from May through October, following the same general pattern used in 2026.
During the 2026 season, the ferry recorded a 10% increase in ridership compared to the previous year. A total of 44,032 passengers and 18,124 vehicles utilized the service, marking the second-highest passenger volume in the last five years. Approximately 85% of passengers were from the United States, while Canadians accounted for 15%.
While the extension ensures service for the 2027 season, the province stated it is working with Bay Ferries to find a more sustainable long-term arrangement. The current agreement does not include a specific financial value or a term extending beyond 2027.
